WHY POSADA SHOWED YOUTH IN YANKEES LOSS

I've been longing for the day it would happen again and last night, it happened. Jorge Posada was able to gear up again, squat behind the plate and re-live the ultimate, catching for the New York Yankees again. It was a thrill to see. I wrote about it in AN OPEN LETTER TO JORGE POSADA. I wrote about my love for the guy and to do what the team needed of him. Last night, he did and in my mind, he shined. Unfortunately, it was due to the fact that Russell Martin got his thumb tweaked pretty bad on a ball bending it back. We'll have to keep an eye on that.
Last night there was nothing good about the Yankees, except to see Posada catch again. The Yankees lost the game 6-0, the Angels looked good, Russell Martin got hurt and don't look now, but the Yankees have lost 4 in a row. Luckily, the Red Sox keep losing, or we'd be in a bad bad place. There's no denying though, we need to start winning... now.

Posada looked overexcited, which isn't to say it's a bad thing. He knew he had a shot and was playing harder than ever, you could see it. He was on a mission, proving to the world on a stage in Anaheim that a 40 year old can still catch, still has skill and will not be denied. If you couldn't see that in Jorge's eye last night, you were watching the wrong highlight. It was good to see this guy give it one more shot, I just hope they give him a few more.Dan Haren was real good, he kept the Yankees shut down all game. This is a guy that was in Yankees trade talk, remember? Even the Yankees know what Haren's all about. The Yankee offense consisted of 4 hits. Derek Jeter clubbed a ground rule double. There was a Jesus Montero single. There were 2 other singles and that was it.
The big story clearly wasn't the offense, it was pitching. See, CC was CC through when he allowed only 1 hit, then it fell apart in the 7th inning. The Yanks were down 1-0 and Girardi put in Hector Noesi and suddenly the Yankees had a hole to dig out. Joe Girardi does that, he uses Hector Noesi probably more than he should to rest the bullpen. I don't blame Noesi, he had a bad night. I don't blame anyone, the Angels are hot right now, they're entitled to be hot.

But it's more than the pitching, it's the injuries. Suddenly the Yankees have question marks, and it seems like it's all at once. Russell Martin has a tweaked thumb. Alex Rodriguez is now going to be out for 4 days with his own tweaked thumb. Nick Swisher has elbow tendinitis and is day to day and Cervelli has concussion like symptoms. It all seems to be happening at the same time. What the Yankees cannot do is panic and that goes for all of Yankeeland too. Today is September 11th. They need to reach back deep today, win one for New York and for America and get some confidence back and move on.

WHY IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO 1 INNING

When will the world end? Will we ever have world peace? Who will be our next President? Where did "pre-Yankee" A.J. Burnett go? The answer to all of the above is, I don't know! When the Yankees signed Burnett they did so believing he would showcase the same dominance he used against the American League, including the New York Yankees. Well ever since he inked that $82 million with the Yankees he somehow lost his heart. He somehow lost the ability to maintain control of a game even when he doesn't have his best stuff. And tonight was classic, present day A.J. Burnett. He looked so good for 5 innings. Actually pitched his way out of danger in the 5th. I said to myself, "Come on A.J., prove me and millions of Yankee fans wrong tonight! Show us you can be a stud!" Who was I kidding!? Enter the 6th inning...A.J. just being A.J.

No matter how good Burnett may look during a game you can always count on one thing: He will have one inning where it all falls apart. It is like clockwork with Burnett. He can look amazing, in control for a few innings and then it happens...one hit; maybe a couple walks; throw in a wild pitch or two and you have yourself a collapse. And for some reason A.J. just can never stop the bleeding. (Photo: Bobby Abreu ties it 1-1)

Look I get it, these are very good MLB hitters he is facing and some credit must be given to them. The Yankees (for the most part) do not give him a ton of run support. But enough is enough man. By your own admission you aren't having fun. Do us all a favor and come up with a mystery "arm strain" or something to end this nightmare. I'll make you a deal A.J..if you come up with some "arm ailment" that will bench you for a while we will still let you make the pies! Deal?!

Our offense battled back against a very tough pitch tonight. Dan Haren, like A.J. Burnett, was terrific for 6+ innings. The Yankees ended his dominance in the 7th with a great rally by stringing together timely hits; including an awesome 2-RBI single by the Captain that tied the game at 4. Cory Wade and David Robertson were just dominating. Shutting down the Angels until Mo took over in the 9th. Well, it was drawn up perfect: Mo shuts them down in the 9th and Yankees rally to get one run in the bottom of the 9th. Except, that is not what happened. Abreu hit his 2nd home run of the night again Rivera and the Yankees bottom of the 9th rally fizzled out when Teixeira was up and Granderson inexplicably got caught in a rundown trying to steal 2nd. What a way to end the game. Anyway, that eventually gave the Angels a 6-4 win tonight.

Final Score: LA Angels 6 - Yankees 4. Not to be forgotten tonight was Granderson's 29th home run tonight! Let's get 'em tomorrow boys!!!
