High School Junior in Jail For Zombie Paraphernalia

Creativity Lands You in the Clink These Days

Sure, no one wants to see anymore Columbines, but these zero-tolerance policies seem to go a little overboard at times. A high schooler is being charged with a felony because his fictional story about zombies taking over his school have been construed as a terrorist threat. From the NBC Affiliate in Lexington, KY:

"My story is based on fiction," said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. "It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."

William Poole is hardly a threat to society and could even be the next George Romero we have been waiting for all these years. But at least the public authorities didn't dope him up on Ritalin to sap his creativity, like they do with most independent-minded kids these days. The Marquis De Sade was able to write in prison, but mind-altering ADD drugs would probably turn Mr. Poole into one of the zombies he wrote about.
