"It is a little disconcerting right now." --Phil Hughes
So Phil Hughes didn't look good today, so what. Worse things have happened. We are in game 3 of a 162 game season, if Yankees win every series this season, be it a 2 game series, or a 3 game series, we are in the playoffs. Yes, I'm getting way ahead of myself, but really, am I? Yes, the game is about winning it all and yes I would have loved to have had Hughes pitch a gem today, but luckily, it's April 3rd, not September 3rd.There were some great highlights today. Jorge Juiced 2 and got 4 RBIs. Swisher had a decent day and Cano and Tex went yard. Damn, Teixeira is on fire. You have to love that. But what we didn't have today was pitching. Look, it happens, so don't scream and bitch about Phil Hughes yet. Remember something, this is a young arm that is slowly going up in a higher innings count each year. Last year was a big test for Hughes, he started all season and won 18 games. That's huge. This year, there is of course fear of fatigue, and yes, his velocity has been down, but you have to get him out there and pitch so you can analyze what's going on. For all we know this is a bad outing and next week he could be dynamite. All I'm saying is it's way too early to panic.(photo: NY Daily News)
Look the Tigers were bound to bounce back today, no one likes to be swept. Cabrera cranked out 2 against Hughes. Bartolo Colon, who was terrific in spring training, dug the Yanks deeper in his outing today. But that's why baseball is the greatest sport alive, because you just don't know what's gonna happen. Yes, momentum was in the Yanks favor today and yes, we kept creeping back, but the Tigers had our number today, bottom line. You turn the page and come back fresh tomorrow. It's all you can do. Final score, Tigers 10-Yankees 7.
Tomorrow night it's Yanks vs. Twins, a rematch from the playoffs. Nova's on the mound and there plenty of us that have faith in the lad, I know I do.
Look, these are the New York Yankees Ladies and Gentlemen. They will bounce back tomorrow and everything's going to be OK. The last thing we need to do is worry. So shake this one off, have dreams of Nova pitching great and the offense kicking ass tonight. Dreams do come true after all.
