Seeing Jason Giambi again was nice, but that's the extent of it. I was thinking back to all those big home runs he had as a New York Yankee and no doubt, it was a good time while he was here, but those days are over and to see him cranking out a home run against us now makes me angry. (Photo: AP)
Giambi had 2 or the 4 RBIs and 3 hits tonight in the Yankees 4-2 loss against the Rockies. That my friends should never happen, but it did.
The Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez pitched a good game and settled in after the Yankees scored the first run of the game off of Alex Rodriguez's RBI double. He later had a sac fly to score Granderson and after that, it was really it for the Yankees... nothing else.(Photo: AP)
To put it simply, the Yankees were beaten by the better team, but what makes it worse in my opinion is AJ Burnett pitched quite well and it was wasted. He let up 7 hits and 4 runs with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks but because the Yankees just couldn't get anything going against Jimenez, it looks worse than it was for Burnett. That's a shame. That's baseball I guess. You couple that with some pretty lousy calls at home plate tonight and you just need to laugh and move on. Sad but true.
Another interesting tid bit. AJ Burnett recorded 4 strikeouts in 1 inning tonight. In the 6th inning, Burnett struck out Iannetta and Carlos Gonzalez. Then, Chris Nelson swung at a wild pitch and it went past Russell Martin and Nelson reached first. Next up came Todd Helton who also K'ed. The last pitcher to do that was King Felix for the Mariners in June 3, 2010 against the Twins. Neat.
Final Score: Rockies 4 - Yankees 2. Tomorrow we come back and win and then we take them Sunday to win the Series on Old Timer's Day.
