Great googly moogly, that's a lot of pervs! From NYT:
“Almost 100,000 convicted sex offenders mixing with children on MySpace — shown by our subpoena — is absolutely appalling and totally unacceptable,” Mr. Blumenthal said in a statement. “For every one of them, there may be hundreds of others using false names and ages.”Facebook is answering a similar subpoena for names of kid-touchers. This number is pretty high, and suggests that anyone out there on the internets could be rubbing vaseline all over themselves in some anime-covered rumpus room. Lest you think that all bloggers are pervs (probably a high percentage number), you'll see that neither "Nixon" or "Lt. Nixon" is in the registered sex offenders list in my geographic location.
Last year, MySpace, owned by News Corporation, and Facebook.com agreed to set security standards after the Web sites were criticized for not doing enough to protect minors from sexual predators lurking on social networking sites.
