Yankee hate is alive and well. It was never more evident to me than when I was invited to a group on Facebook recently and then kicked out. Baseball Chat was the name of it, and if you're a Yankee fan on that group page, I suggest you leave.
At the time I was invited, it seemed simple enough, baseball and chatting. I thought "How nice, a place where we can talk about all teams. No mean spirited stuff, great!" Clearly with a name like Bleeding Yankee Blue, you knew where I was coming from. So I accepted the invitation and presented my posts immediately. After all, I am a blogger.
Well, apparently people didn't like my posts. Non Yankee fans. Red Sock Fans, Twins fans, they all apparently were allowed to voice their thoughts on the Yankees and my blog, and it was mean spirited. Yet, I couldn't post my blogs. No, not me. Instead, I was just kicked out of the group. Ah shucks. Here's a sample. Enjoy it, I did:Now, this isn't a post to have all the BYB readers run over to Baseball Chat and rip them a new one. No, This is a post about Yankee pride. Yankee fans get a bum rap. People hate us because we love the Yankees. They use all the lines we've heard a million times: We won 27 championships, but we suck. We buy championships, love that one. We have the biggest payroll, damn straight we do.
Look, I was raised a Yankee fan. I watched them win some in the 70's, suck some in the 80's and win some more in the 90's. I like my Yankees in last place but love them in first place. All my life I followed Derek Jeter, Wayne Tolleson, Danny Tartabull and Bobby Meacham and I did it because it's my team. I once got an autograph from Gary Ward. No one probably remembers that guy, but I do because I love the Yankees. See what I mean? I really do bleed blue. Bottom line, I like winning but I root when my Yanks are losing too.
My point is, the Yanks are my team and you have your team. Respect it. I do. We're not at war people, this is the game of ball we're talking about. Chillax.
So do me a favor, stick with the Yankee sites ladies and gentlemen, there's jealously and anger out there. Stand tall, smile and back our Yanks, after all, they're the greatest team on earth and whomever doesn't like it needs to get a life.
