A HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY NOTE TO YOGI

Dear Mr. Berra,

Happy Belated Birthday. There’s never a good excuse for missing a birthday, but you have to believe me when I say, my blog’s server was down. You don’t know what that means, I know, but the reality is sir, I had every intention of posting a real tribute to you on Bleeding Yankee Blue, but without a server, It’s like I don’t have my glasses on, I can’t do a thing.

I know what you’re thinking, Why is Casey back from the dead and why is he bleeding. No no, I’m not Casey Stengel, I’m known as the Mighty Casey in the Internet world and Bleeding Yankee Blue is a website, that brings opinion to readers about the New York Yankees. We also like to talk about the icons in the Yankees family, which brings me to you sir.

Mr. Berra, you are someone that my dad has been talking about for almost 35 years now. He loved the way you played the game, probably because of the Italian connection and also because you were the one that no one thought would make it in the pros, but you went against the odds to become one of the greatest. You’ve won a ton of championships and played with some of the best and the best part for me is you’re an inspiration. The stories my father told me about you are the stories I tell my kids, especially when they think they can’t do something, whether it’s on the field or in life. My son has actually perfected your stance in the batter’s box and for a brief moment, his swing looks exactly like yours did. You’re still idolized. In fact, I use “It’s getting late early” in everyday conversation. Come on, give me props...ah... you don't know what props is, do you.... I mean, give me alittle credit for passing on the Yogisms.

The point is, you are a true Yankee Icon, and you deserve a very Happy Birthday. Thank you for bringing us joy over the years, playing great ball, fighting with George, and just hanging around the clubhouse. We love you there, so don’t go anywhere pal.

Happy Belated Birthday Mr. Berra. Thanks for being you.

--Casey
