The youngest star in the system, catcher Gary Sanchez, had a few slight injuries early, sidelined and placed on the DL with an abdominal strain, but look for this kid to prove himself as he works his way toward the pros. Don’t get me wrong, he’s way off, but he has star power and the Yankees know it. Bottom line, he’s a catcher so there’s certainly no rush to get him up there with Montero and Romine closer than he. Currently in Charleston, Sanchez has 29 hits and 8 doubles in 32 games. His average is only .238, but look for that to improve. And speaking of Austin Romine, currently Austin’s hitting .281 with 4 HRs and 7 doubles over 36 games, and a solid OPS of .759. He’s caught base stealers too, which helps when your behind the dish giving him a 20% CS. Romine is better than Montero defensively, but offsenively, Montero is hitting well and you need to figure he’s also hitting against bigger, better pitchers. I don’t think anything has really changed, Montero is the star of the future and Romine will likely end up being trade bait, but there’s no disputing Romine’s talent.
