WHY THE RED SOX ARE IN FIRST

(photo: Getty)
Sure the West coast road trip is important, in fact, it's downright necessary to win as many games as you can this trip because this is where the Yankees will be truly tested. Unfortunately, the bullpen floundered and that space cadet Eduardo Nunez helped blow it for us...AGAIN. Read the full play by play HERE.

Look, I get it. Sometimes the bullpen comes in and gives up a run or 2. Yes, they've been rolling lately with out Rafael Soriano and that's a true testament to their great pitching, so I'm not about to hammer Boone Logan and Luis Ayala for the losing the lead, but I am disappointed. Last night the bullpen had a one run lead and lost it. Boone Logan started the bleeding, when Adam Kennedy singled off of him. When Ayala entered the game, he allowed a single and a walk. That's then the Mariners got their runs.

I am furious with Eduardo Nunez for getting picked off on second base when we needed that run the most. It's foolish and exactly what I've told ya'll yesterday. Nunez doesn't have the baseball gene. Read WHY I'M DROPPING NAMES LIKE I'M SOMEBODY. I give my opinion on Nunez.
I find his problems juvenile. Too many mistakes. I find him to be the Absentminded professor, a space cadet, a young kid with a lot to learn who the Yankees are praying can get himself together to prove to people he is a decent ballplayer. He's my Sergio Mitre. He starts out decent and then 1 thing happens and he blows it. Borat in the antique shop comes to mind.It went down like this, when Nunez came in to pinch run for Posada with two outs in the eighth and stole second, the Yankees could have tied it. But he didn't pay attention and was picked off, he wanted to be a hero and I say, the Yankees have enough heroes, just prove that you can play. I said it early on in the season when he made those terrible throwing errors too.

Back to Logan for a second, our lefty specialist. Do you know that lefties are hitting 11-for-32 against Logan this season? The lefties specialist is supposed to be in our favor... to GET THE OPPOSING TEAM OUT, not help them Boone. Come on.

To me, last night's game was winnable. Again, the bullpen management is something that we preach here. Girardi pulls the trigger quicker than anyone I've ever seen. AJ Burnett had 1 bad moment, but he could have stayed in alittle longer. David Robertson was available for an inning, but no, he didn't use him. Yes, I'm Monday morning quarterbacking here but the reality is, that's what we do. Girardi is much too Binder happy and needs to use his gut more, especially in that moment.

Quick highlights: Tex homered in the first. Pineda had a wild pitch and a run came home in the 5th. Alex had an RBI single and Swisher was about to crank one out of the park for another but an incredible play by Franklin Gutierrez didn't let that happen.(Photo: EPA)
And so in the end, the Red Sox are in first place and the Yankees have to continue to play against a tough West Coast. A change of scenery can get the Yankees going, this is true, but they needed to set the tone last night. They needed to say "We're the New York Yankees and we are about to take over Seattle." I say leave the dead weight behind Cashman, it's a small sample, but amateurs like Nunez need to be cut loose, we had that game, now all we have is second place.

Final Score: Mariners 4 - Yankees 3.
